Brain Injury
Pittsburgh Lawyers Representing Brain Injury Victims
The most vital organ in the body is the brain. It is the nerve center for everything we think and do in our lives. While it is protected by the bony skull that surrounds it, the brain unfortunately is not immune from injury due to external trauma from motor vehicle accidents, work injuries and other things that cause blunt force to the head can cause a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
In addition to external trauma, the brain can also be injured as a result of internal conditions, which cause loss of oxygen (the medical term is “hypoxia”) or swelling (the medical term is “cerebral edema”). I’m attorney John Gismondi, founder of Gismondi & Associates. We are lawyers who represent people in Pittsburgh and throughout Pennsylvania who have suffered traumatic brain injury due to the negligence of another party. If your loved one has suffered such an injury, contact our lawyers as soon as possible for a free initial consultation.
Causes Of Brain Injury
In some cases, the injury to the brain is immediately apparent as in a severe motor vehicle accident with extensive head injuries. In other cases, however, the brain injury is more subtle, e.g., the outward signs of injury to the skull are limited, but people nevertheless complain about constant headaches, sensitivity to light, irritability, difficulty in concentrating and the like. Whether it is obvious or subtle, however, traumatic brain injury can cause permanent changes in one’s lifestyle and have a long-term impact on an entire family. Mild brain injuries can be hard to diagnose, especially in a “closed head” injury where the damage is not visible. On a CT scan, a brain injury may show up as a bruise or contusion, or may not show up at all. Some brain injuries don’t leave a fingerprint and instead must be diagnosed from symptoms. Family members are often the first to know that an injury has occurred.
In cases of mild brain injury, lost functions may be restored to a degree with treatment and rehabilitation. Sadly, in most cases of severe traumatic brain injury the damage is irreversible.
Regardless of how it happens, brain injury causes lifelong changes for the patient and those left with the responsibility of taking care of the person. Because the brain is the most vital organ of the body, when our lawyers are entrusted with handling a case of this sort, it is done with the sort of attention and vigor it deserves and needs. After all, the comfort and well-being of your loved one depend on it.

A Lawsuit Provides Compensation … And More
We wish that we could turn back the hands of time and undo what has happened to you or your family. Unfortunately, no lawyer has that power. However, with a successful lawsuit we can reduce the burdens you face by obtaining full and complete compensation for everything that you have experienced as a result of your injury or the death of a family member … mounting medical bills, lost wages, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, and perhaps most importantly, the loss of the relationship and companionship of a loved one.
We will also fight for compensation to cover everything that you may face in the future. Brain injury cases often involve long-term needs for things such as future surgeries, specialized equipment, personal attendant care, and much more. Our goal is to provide full compensation for all of those needs so that you or your loved one can enjoy the very best quality of life possible and make the most of a difficult situation. After all, that is the least that you are entitled to.
Aside from providing you with full and complete compensation, a lawsuit can do one other very important thing: it can force changes to be made by the people who caused the injury to you or a loved one so that no other person or family has to go through what you have.
