Pulmonary Embolism
Pittsburgh Lawyers Representing Victims Of Misdiagnosed Pulmonary Embolism
A pulmonary embolism is a very dangerous medical condition involving a blood clot that starts in the leg and travels to the lungs. As with a stroke, a pulmonary embolism is treatable if the condition is diagnosed early enough. However, if not diagnosed and treated, it can be fatal.
I’m attorney John Gismondi, founder of Gismondi & Associates. We are lawyers who represent families in Pittsburgh and throughout Pennsylvania who have suffered losses as a result of misdiagnosed pulmonary embolism. A powerful lawsuit can provide full and complete compensation for you, and it can also send a strong message that will help to prevent some other person from being injured by a similar mistake or accident.
Were Your Pulmonary Embolism Symptoms Misdiagnosed?
A pulmonary embolism is almost always caused by a blood clot (known as a deep vein thrombus) that forms in the leg. The medical condition becomes life-threatening when the clot breaks free and travels to the main pulmonary artery in the lung or one of its branches.
The people most commonly at risk for DVT are those who have “thick” blood, which tends to clot, people who have suffered severe trauma to one of their legs, or people who have recently undergone surgery on their abdomen or legs. Doctors can use special tests such as ultrasound to see if a patient has clots in his or her leg. If so, blood-thinning drugs such as heparin can be given to dissolve the clot. If the clot has already broken free and traveled to the lung, it may be discovered on a pulmonary angiogram, and if that is the case, surgery might have to be done to extract the clot. Either way, it is absolutely vital that the medical staff move quickly to detect clots in the leg or lung and properly treat them.
Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism include shortness of breath, redness, swelling or pain in one leg or chest pain. You may also experience shortness of breath from mini clots that have traveled from the leg to the lung before the big one.
To diagnose pulmonary embolism, doctors should ask about your medical history to determine your risk factors for blood clots forming in your leg, and they also must watch carefully for signs such as leg pain or shortness of breath.

A Lawsuit Provides Compensation … And More
We wish that we could turn back the hands of time and undo what has happened to you or your family. Unfortunately, no lawyer has that power. However, with a successful lawsuit we can reduce the burdens you face by obtaining full and complete compensation for everything that you have experienced as a result of your injury or the death of a family member … mounting medical bills, lost wages, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, and perhaps most importantly, the loss of the relationship and companionship of a loved one.
We will also fight for compensation to cover everything that you may face in the future. Pulmonary embolism cases often involve long-term needs for things such as future surgeries, specialized equipment, personal attendant care and much more. Our goal is to provide full compensation for all of those needs so that you or your loved one can enjoy the very best quality of life possible and make the most of a difficult situation. After all, that is the least that you are entitled to.
Aside from providing you with full and complete compensation, a lawsuit can do one other very important thing: It can force changes to be made by the doctor or hospital that caused the injury to you or a loved one so that no other person or family has to go through what you have.

- A significant six-figure recovery for an elderly woman who came to the emergency room with signs of a pulmonary embolism, which were ignored and not treated.
