Back Injuries
Some of the most common parts of the body to suffer injury are the disks and vertebrae in our neck and back. Whether it involves the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back) or lumbar (low back) area, injuries to the disks or vertebrae can cause severe pain and sometimes can even cause damage to the spinal cord. Surgeries done to treat these conditions include laminectomies, diskectomies, fusions and the like. These surgeries often also involve the placement of pedicle screws, cages and other “hardware” that is used to stabilize the fractures.
When these surgeries are done by orthopedic doctors or neurosurgeons, they can often lead to injury to the patient, including damage to the spinal cord or the spinal column.
