Plastic Surgery
Pittsburgh Lawyers Representing Victims Of Cosmetic Surgery Errors
Plastic or cosmetic surgery is often used to minimize scars or reconstruct body parts following a serious injury from a car accident, burn, dog attack or other circumstances. Only qualified surgeons should perform cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. When an inexperienced or unqualified physician attempts to perform this type of surgery, the results can be disastrous.
I’m attorney John Gismondi, founder of Gismondi & Associates. We are lawyers who represent people in Pittsburgh and throughout Pennsylvania who have been injured through botched plastic surgery. A powerful lawsuit can provide full and complete compensation for you, and it can also send a strong message that will help to prevent some other person from being injured by a similar mistake or accident.
Why Did My Plastic Surgery Go Wrong?
When done properly, the results of cosmetic surgery can be a physical marvel, but when not done properly, it can leave a patient even more scarred than before, both physically and emotionally.
Cosmetic surgery must be well-thought-out in advance. Is the patient ready for the procedure? Is he or she an appropriate candidate for the surgery? Has the surgeon thought about alternatives that may be appropriate for the patient? Does the surgeon have the experience to make the operation a success? Those are all important questions that have to be addressed before the patient steps in the operating room.
In one of our cases, we represented an eight-year-old girl who had a small brown spot on her lower cheek near the jawline. A surgeon attempted a type of surgery that had never been done before (essentially, using our client as a guinea pig) and the operation resulted in horrible facial disfigurement, which led to 14 additional surgeries. From age eight to 18, the young girl traveled from hospital to hospital and lived with physical pain and embarrassment over her appearance. Today, the young woman is left with significant facial scarring, a drooping corner of her mouth and drooling.
Our lawyers received a multimillion-dollar jury verdict for this young girl. The case received much national attention because at that time the federal government was talking about damage caps for pain and suffering in medical malpractice lawsuits and the young woman’s case illustrated the unfairness of such arbitrary limits. The case was featured on Good Morning America and People magazine, and our client was asked to testify in Congress against caps on medical malpractice awards. Attorney Gismondi accompanied her to Washington, D.C., for that Congressional hearing.

A Lawsuit Provides Compensation … And More
We wish that we could turn back the hands of time and undo what has happened to you or your family. Unfortunately, no lawyer has that power. However, with a successful lawsuit we can reduce the burdens you face by obtaining full and complete compensation for everything that you have experienced as a result of your injury or the death of a family member … mounting medical bills, lost wages, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, and perhaps most importantly, the loss of the relationship and companionship of a loved one.
We will also fight for compensation to cover everything that you may face in the future. Plastic surgery error and malpractice cases often involve long-term needs for things such as future surgeries, specialized equipment, personal attendant care and much more. Our goal is to provide full compensation for all of those needs so that you or your loved one can enjoy the very best quality of life possible and make the most of a difficult situation. After all, that is the least that you are entitled to.
Aside from providing you with full and complete compensation, a lawsuit can do one other very important thing: It can force changes to be made by the doctor or hospital that caused the injury to you or a loved one so that no other person or family has to go through what you have.
